EBS Technology Patch Automation Tool for Application Tier (ETPAT-AT) (Doc ID 2749774.1)

This document describes how to use the EBS Technology Patch Automation Tool for Application Tier (ETPAT-AT) tool.

The most current version of this document can be obtained in My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 2749774.1.

There is a change log at the end of this document.

Note: To receive automatic notifications of updates, subscribe to the Hot Topics Notification feature in My Oracle Support, as described in Document 793436.2Subscribing to Hot Topic E-Mails.

In This Document

This document is divided into the following sections:

Section 1: Overview

EBS Tech Patch Automation Tool - Application Tier (ETPAT-AT) automates patching of technology one-offs for the following components of the Oracle E-Business Suite Release (EBS) Release 12.2.0 application tier.

    • FMW WebTier 11.1.1.9
    • Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6 Smart Update Patch
    • Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0
    • FMW oracle_common 11.1.1.9
    • Forms and Reports 10.1.2.3

Specifically, ETPAT-AT:

  • Can be run on an EBS Release 12.2.0 application tier (run file system) for new installations or upgrades.
  • Is available for all platforms on which Oracle E-Business Suite is supported.
  • Runs ETCC-MT both before and after each patching session.
  • Provides comprehensive reports on:
    • All components that were patched in the patching session
    • The resulting updated application tier technology stack inventory.
  • Works both with on-premises and Compute environments.
  • Makes no changes to the EBS database.
  • Cannot be used on EBS systems that are already at Release 12.2.3 or later.

Section 2: Obtaining ETPAT-AT

ETPAT-AT is available from My Oracle Support as Patch 32208510.

To obtain and apply the tool, follow these steps:

  1. Create or specify a patch stage area directory. This patch stage area can be in any location accessible from the application tier. For example: <NE_BASE>/EBSapps/patch/etpat-at. If you wish, you can use your regular patch download area. This patch stage area will be used to download all the required patches prompted for by ETPAT-AT when it runs.

  2. Download the latest ETCC Patch 17537119 to the patch stage area. This is because ETPAT-AT requires ETCC Patch 17537119 for Jan 2021 Database and Fusion Middleware Proactive Patch (or above). If you do not obtain the patch with the latest ETCC, you will be prompted to do so when ETPAT-AT runs.

  3. Download and unzip Patch 32208510 under your patch stage area, specifying the -o unzip option to overwrite any older version that may be installed:
    $ cd patch stage area
    unzip -o p32208510_R12_GENERIC.zip

Section 3: Using ETPAT-AT

3.1 Preparing To Run ETPAT-AT

Source the run edition applications environment with the appropriate command for your environment.

UNIX:
. <RUN_BASE>/EBSapps/appl/APPS<CONTEXT_NAME>.env
Windows:
C:\> <RUN_BASE>\EBSapps\appl\envshell<CONTEXT_NAME>.cmd

3.2 Running ETPAT-AT

Run the following command to start ETPAT-AT:
$ perl etpat_at.pl
  1. Respond to the following prompts:
$ Enter 12.2.0 Run edition file system context file:
$ Enter APPS schema name [APPS]:
$ Enter password for APPS schema:
$ Enter directory where you downloaded ETCC Patch 17537119:

  2. ETPAT-AT checks whether the latest version of ETCC-MT is installed. If it finds an older version, you will see a message like this:
[WARNING] ETCC Patch 17537119 is more than 30 days old.
Check if a newer version of ETCC Patch 17537119 is available in My Oracle Support.
If available, download patch under stage area and unzip using '-o' option.
Current stage area: patch stage area
    Enter 'Yes' to Continue (Yes/No):
Take the appropriate action and then enter 'Yes' to continue.

  3. ETPAT-AT then prompts you to download the following patches to the stage area:

    • Latest EBS Release 12.2 Consolidated Fusion Middleware Fixes zip
    • OPatch Patch 6880880 for Forms and Reports 10.1.2.3 (p6880880_101000_<platform>.zip)
    • OPatch Patch 6880880 for Fusion Middleware Oracle Homes (p6880880_111000_<platform>.zip)
    • WLS Smart update Patch 31136426 (p31136426_1036_Generic.zip)
    • Latest PSU patch for Oracle WebLogic Server 10.3.6.0

Note: Do not unzip these patches after they have been downloaded. ETPAT-AT will process them later.

  4. After the patches have been downloaded to the patch stage area, continue by responding "Yes" to the following prompt:
$ Download above patches under patch stage area and Enter 'Yes' to continue (Yes/No):
  5. If not all the patches have been downloaded to the patch stage area, you will be re-prompted for them twice.

  6. If one or more patches are still not available in the patch stage area after the third prompt, ETPAT-AT will exit, but you can re-run the tool again when you have made the patches available.

Section 4: Log Files, Diagnostics, and Recovery

4.1 Log Files and Reports

The ETPAT-AT tool creates log files and reports as shown in the following table.

ItemName, Location, or Description
Log file DirectoryPatch Stage Area/<TWO_TASK>_etpat_at/log
Log File Name Formatetpat_at_<TWO_TASK>.log
Summary Report NameETPAT-AT_Report_<TWO_TASK>.html

4.2 Diagnostics

  • If you experience problems running ETPAT-AT, start by looking at the summary report.
  • You can also review the main log file for additional diagnostic information.
  • See 4.1 Log Files and Reports for the location of these files and their format.

4.3 Recovery

  • After you have fixed any issues, you can re-run ETPAT-AT.
  • When re-run, ETPAT-AT will apply patches to any technology components that could not be patched in the previous run.

12.2 E-Business Suite Applications DBA Steps To Run The EBS Technology Code Level Checker (ETCC) (Doc ID 2008451.1)

APPLIES TO:

Oracle Applications DBA - Version 12.2 to 12.2 [Release 12.2Cloud]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

GOAL

E-Business Suite 12.2 Applications DBA, Upgrade And Patching related issues

Provide steps to run the E-Business Suite (EBS) Technology Codelevel Checker (ETCC).

The Technology Codelevel Checker (ETCC) utility provides two scripts to ensure all the necessary database and application tier patches are installed on a 12.2 system.

Oracle strongly recommends the use of this utility to ensure that all required database and application tier bug fixes have been installed.

The scripts are usually updated on a quarterly basis, to include the latest defect patches released for the 12.2 database and apps tiers.

SOLUTION

Follow the below steps to run the Technology Codelevel Checker (ETCC):

1) The EBS Technology Code Level Checker (ETCC) provides two scripts which analyze the Database and the Middle tier Oracle Homes and warns of missing bug fixes required for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.
Oracle strongly recommends the use of this utility to ensure that all required database and middle tier bugfixes have been installed.

The two scripts are:

checkDBpatch.sh (checkDBpatch.cmd on Windows)
This is the Database EBS Technology Codelevel Checker (DB-ETCC), which determines if all the needed bugfixes exist in the specified database ORACLE_HOME.

checkMTpatch.sh (checkMTpatch.cmd on Windows)
This is the Middle Tier EBS Technology Codelevel Checker (MT-ETCC), which determines if all the needed bugfixes exist in the middle tier file system.

The results of the execution are stored in the database (APPLSYS.TXK_TCC_RESULTS table) and verified during Upgrade Filesystem creation using Rapid Install, and during every adop execution.
Note:
For AD-TXK codelevel Delta 6 and earlier, MT-ETCC does not support storing the results in the database.

2) To run the DB Technology Codelevel Checker (DB-ETCC) :

1. Download Patch 17537119 from My Oracle Support

2. Read the Instructions to run the Database EBS checker utility from the patch's readme.

3. Follow the steps below :
- Login as the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME owner on the DB tier and Source the <DB_ORACLE_HOME>/<SID>.env
- Unzip the patch
- Confirm the following files are present after unzipping.
    checkDBpatch.sh
    checkDBpatch.cmd
    txk_R1220_DB_base_bugs.xml
- Run the script and Supply the values the script prompts for, if using the interactive mode.
  UNIX:
    Interactive mode:
      $ ./checkDBpatch.sh
    Non-interactive mode:
      $ ./checkDBpatch.sh contextfile=<full path to database context file>
  Windows:
    Interactive mode:
      C:\>checkDBpatch.cmd
    Non-interactive mode:
      C:\>checkDBpatch.cmd contextfile=<full path to database context file>

4. The script provides a list of one-offs that are either missing, or need to be rolled back.
Take the appropriate actions based on the results provided by the script.

Notes:
 - Patch 17537119 is updated regularly, so always upload this patch from My Oracle Support to get the latest version of the base bugs (txk_R1220_DB_base_bugs.xml) used by the Code Level Checker tool.
 - Make sure to have appropriate version of opatch utility for the RDBMS ORACLE_HOME being validated. For example, for an RDBMS at release 11.2.0.3, the opatch utility should be of the version 11.2.0.3 and above. For an RDBMS release 11.2.0.4, the opatch utility should be of version 11.2.0.4 and above.
- For a multi-node RAC environment:
run this tool on all non-shared ORACLE_HOMEs.
run this tool on one of the shared ORACLE_HOMEs.

3) To run the MT Technology Codelevel Checker (MT-ETCC) :

1. Download Patch 17537119 from My Oracle Support

2. Read the Instructions to run the Middle Tier EBS checker utility from the patch's readme.

3. Follow the steps below :
- Source the correct environment for the Middle Tier
  (install/upgrade, or online patching cycle).
- Unzip the patch
- Confirm the following files are present after unzipping.
  checkMTpatch.sh
  checkMTpatch.cmd
  txk_R1220_MT_base_bugs.xml
- Run the script and Supply the values the script prompts for.
  UNIX:
    Interactive mode:
      $ ./checkMTpatch.sh
    Non-interactive mode:
      $ (echo <appspass>) |./checkMTpatch.sh contextfile=<full path to middle tier context file>
  Windows:
    Interactive mode:
      C:\>checkMTpatch.cmd
    Non-interactive mode:
      C:\>(echo <appspass>)| checkMTpatch.cmd contextfile=<full path to middle tier context file>

4. Take the appropriate actions based on what the script reports about any missing bugfixes.

Note:
In a multi-node Oracle E-Business Suite environment, you need to run MT-ETCC:
 - On all non-shared application (middle) tier nodes.
  - On any one of the shared application (middle) tier nodes.

4) If the EBS Technology Code Level Checker reports a missing bug fix, you can identify the patch that includes the missing fix by referring to the following note
Note 1594274.1 - Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2: Consolidated List of Patches and Technology Bug Fixes

If some RDBMS patches are in conflict when applying a missing bug fix, the following Notes may help or a dedicated Service Request can be raised to E-Business Installation Support team for further investigation:
    - Note 1147107.1 - Database Patch Set Update Overlay Patches Required for Use with PSUs and Oracle E-Business Suite
    - Note 1321267.1 - Database Patch Conflict Resolution
    - Note 1091294.1 - How to Use the My Oracle Support Conflict Checker Tool for Patches Installed with OPatch [Video]

5) Four examples of the script execution are shown below. The bugfixes shown here are example bugfix numbers only.
